Laura LAIR / Winter Dreaming EP

OUT ON BANDCAMP NOW!

In my work as a Sound and Energy healer, I see how intense the time between mid-December and mid-January can be for many. If we look to nature, we can see winter is a time we should be resting but often it’s party season or can be a time of commitments to others.

So I started a series of EPs that aim to encapsulate the feeling of winter and to offer an alternate to the hustle this time can bring.

May this EP, the third in my winter series, bring you a momentary pause; time to reflect and imagine a new future during the long, dark nights of winter…

Wishing you a peaceful and beauty-filled Winter Solstice and rest of 2023.

Le grá, Laura

This is my offering for Samhain, 2023.

Samhain is the time of year that offers us an opportunity to link back to our ancestral line in the past, to link with our future ancestors and to own our place in the Circle that every human is a part of.

May this piece support you however and wherever you live.
Le meas, Laura

Samhain 2023

I have been engaging with the Celtic calendar since I was a teen. The four cross-quarter days of Imbolc, Bealtaine, Lughnasadh and Samhain were hugely important to my ancestors and continue to be for those of us who acknowledge them- along with the equinoxes and solstices- as a means to be in tune with our changing seasons throughout the year.

Each point on the wheel offers an opportunity to check in with what Nature is physically doing and energetically implying at that time and see how ‘as above, so below’ applies to our mind, body and emotional worlds.

Samhain has always been the most important to me, a time of year when ‘the veil is thin’ and honouring your ancestors is encouraged. A time when nature is shedding leaves, letting go and allowing decay and death to have its time as we move towards the stillness and peace of winter. Falling on the 31st of October, it is from Samhain that the tradition of Halloween has come about, and like all Celtic festivals, it begins at nightfall and goes through the night to the following day.

There’s a lot I can say about Samhain and my own connection to it but I believe I express myself best through music. Each year I make pieces for the points on the calendar and in the last few years have felt moved to share some of them on my Bandcamp. My intention being to draw attention to the seasonal shift, the cycles we all live in and as a collective seem to have forgotten we are unendingly a part of, and to honour my ancestors and lineage to which I feel a deep connection.

‘We Call’ will be available to buy and stream on https://lauralair.bandcamp.com/ on October 31st 2023.

Bealtaine blessings to all!

I created these two pieces having tuned in to the energy of this Bealtaine. They may be of interest to those running Bealtaine Circles or those doing their own Bealtaine ceremony who perhaps would like some musical/energetic support.

The first is for the opening of the Circle and the second is an approx 20 minute drone that would be appropriate as background for ceremony or meditation after the opening.

Both available to stream on my Soundcloud or you can email me at lauralairmusic ATgmailDOTcom to be sent the link for download, my gift to you this Bealtaine

Laura LAIR / Carry Me Home

March 17, 2022 § Leave a comment

Although it’s called St.Patrick’s Day- or Paddy’s Day if you’re Irish (*never* Patty’s Day American friends!!)- I personally don’t see March 17th as a day for Patrick but instead a day for all facets of Irish life to be celebrated- our incredible authors, musicians, artists; our beautiful language- ár theanga, Gaeilge, our rich culture and history- a history that despite what is so often projected, equally includes Herstory. And the treatment of Irish women and girls by our systems have quite often been brutal…

‘Carry Me Home’ is a piece I’ve written as a tribute to all those women who left and never got to come home to Ireland- those women who were expelled from Irish life both literally and metaphorically. As I wrote it, I remembered especially the women and babies in Tuam and around our country, who had their lives ripped apart by the Catholic church and the barbaric mother and baby homes. All those women who died subjugated by a cruel system. I wish them peace and I send them love. Suaimhneas síoraí dá n-anam.

A day that the state dedicates to a British man who perceived the native people, in his own words, as “barbarous” and who is credited with bringing the patriarchal system of Christianity to our country feels a great day to release a piece dedicated to and for the women of Ireland.
