LAIR returns to Eotrax with a new 4-track EP.
Following her 2017 self-titled debut EP, releases on Urban Legend and Rhod Records as well as collaborative projects in the visual arts and dance she returns to Eotrax to release I Hurt So I Cry this summer.
Created using elements of sound healing and sacred sound I Hurt So I Cry can be engaged with from a purely musical perspective or listeners can take advantage of its sound healing qualities and use this EP as an active sound bath- active in that the listener intentionally uses the music to support them in going within and releasing, resting and restoring their body, nervous system and heart.
As with all LAIR’s work, the music is composed using only her voice with one exception, a sampled cello in the EPs first track Foreshadow. This brooding opener inhabits the dark ambient world we’ve come to expect of her music but as the EP unfolds ethereal vocal lines mix with her darker sound and a new, lighter sound world is revealed.
In the artist’s words:
“A shadow falls across our lives, we hurt so we cry, the feeling starts to shift and from that shift hope can spring.”
Both intimate and expansive, the tracks create a feeling of existing outside time. LAIR’s profound connection to nature can be felt through all the tracks – at times in a deep cavern, at times moving through an elvish forest and at times in an Otherworld.

Inspired by the current cycle we are in, it feels that we’ve all been here before and will be again depending on how we choose to move forward…
Our collective is made up of each individual choosing how they are going to behave in the world. This month, I feel it is vital for us all to ask within, what will you choose?!

I was deeply moved by this artwork ‘She reveals her power to save her loved ones’ when Adam sent it to me. I tuned in to the picture for a segment of a sound bath I recorded and Adam has put this to a time lapse of him creating his stunning piece which you can watch here:
Adam writes: “The scene is 16th century England at the peak of the witch trials, a young woman is being hidden by loved ones from authorities as many of those trials lead to their execution; but she chooses to reveal herself and her powers as she does not want those caring for her to be seen as an accessory to her ‘heresy’ under the medieval religious beliefs and laws of the time.”
I felt a profound sadness, overwhelm and just depth of emotion when I tuned into the artwork and I think perhaps you’ll be able to feel some of that emotion through my piece “In Light Divine” which accompanies the art in our New Moon video.

The fourth piece in my series of Full Moon collaborations for 2020 with the wonderful artist and human Adam Perry.
Musically, this month’s piece revealed itself to be a lullaby- ‘Lay Down Your Head’ has intense Divine Mother vibes!
The message I received is:
“Listen to your inner child. Care for her/him. Choose to become your own mother- to mother your inner child and to make choices on how best to nourish that child mind, body and spirit. Come from this space as you move forward.”
‘Lay Down Your Head’ accompanies Adam’s absolutely stunning piece “She summons and invokes her Higher Self under the night sky”

The third piece in my series of Full Moon collaborations for 2020 with the wonderful artist and human Adam Perry.
For this month’s reading, Adam and I had decided we would put forth the request ‘show me God/Universal energy’ and allow the sounds and images to come through. So it was quite a profound moment when I revealed my piece of music to be called ‘The Oracle at Delphi’ and he shared his art reading which centred on her!
The high priestess of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, Greece was known as the Pythia. People came from far and wide to consult her on all important matters from when was best time to plant crops to when war should be undertaken. She was held in the highest esteem and was an extremely powerful woman, with the line of priestesses giving prophecies at Delphi for hundreds of years until the eventual rise of Christianity.
To me, this reading is encouraging us all to tune into our innate inner Knowing and to Trust it.
May we all trust in our own vision and create the world we each want to be part of 🙏

I’m honoured to be part of this mix tape celebrating Imbolc, created by The Department of Energy
“The first release from The Department of Energy is inspired by the tributaries and tribulations of Cork’s Lee Valley. This Landscape Mixtape contains potcheen anecdotes, airborne survey planes, archive material, drowned houses, hard ambience, alluvial oak woods, unidentified flying objects, a lost mp3, a broken wav, 1980’s radio, 2020 visions, fast eddies, sloe meanders, preliminary research, semi-state bodies, statements of intent, folklore, feathered friends and the knowledge of salmon.
In the 1950’s the ESB flooded parts of the Lee Valley, when they built two hydroelectric dams to power Cork city. Gerry O’Riordan’s memories of this event (interviewed by Dr Richard Scriven for his Cork Is The Lee podcast) form part of the mixtape, alongside layers of local field recordings made by the Department of Energy over the past 12 months and extracts from some 39 year old cassettes. Have you ever noticed how a fast flowing stream sounds like environmental tape hiss?
Recently resurfaced tracks by DOE members (Mercury.mp3 & Borderland.wav) sit next to newer arrangements by Local Gods, all counterpointed by two fathoms-deep meditations from LAIR“
“The Department of Energy was inspired by a GAA pitch, a white quartz standing stone, an electrical station and a stream. That was February last year and since then we’ve made recordings, taken photographs and just sat and listened, all over the Lee Valley.
That raw material has been shaped into a Landscape Mixtape for your listening pleasure. It will be publicly streaming this Saturday – Brigid’s day. We’ll have our first physical release on the first of May. And something to mark every Celtic festival thereafter.”
