I am so happy to share this stunning video created by the super-talented Mary Leo for the title track from my newest EP ‘I Hurt So I Cry’ which premieres today on The Brvtalist

“The Brvtalist is pleased to premiere a new video from LAIR. Following her 2017 self-titled debut EP, releases on Urban Legend and Rhod Records as well as collaborative projects in the visual arts and dance she returns to Eotrax to release I Hurt So I Cry this summer. Building off her previous efforts, we return to LAIR’s dark, meditative, ambient world. Where ethereal vocals meet immersive soundscapes, plunging the listener into a new realm where darkness meets light and nothing is quite as it seems.

Today we are thrilled to host this stunning video Directed by Mary Leo, which is the perfect visualization of LAIR’s haunting work. The EP is out now on cassette and digital. Get yours at: https://eotrax.bandcamp.com/album/i-hurt-so-i-cry

Out Today / LAIR / I Hurt So I Cry EP

June 29, 2021 § Leave a comment

My newest EP is out today on Eotrax

Know the dark and light are one
There is no denying pain

Look at the unseen
Listen to the unheard
Love the life undone

We hurt so we cry, so hope may spring

LAIR returns to Eotrax with a new 4-track EP.

Following her 2017 self-titled debut EP, releases on Urban Legend and Rhod Records as well as collaborative projects in the visual arts and dance she returns to Eotrax to release I Hurt So I Cry this summer.

Created using elements of sound healing and sacred sound I Hurt So I Cry can be engaged with from a purely musical perspective or listeners can take advantage of its sound healing qualities and use this EP as an active sound bath- active in that the listener intentionally uses the music to support them in going within and releasing, resting and restoring their body, nervous system and heart.

As with all LAIR’s work, the music is composed using only her voice with one exception, a sampled cello in the EPs first track Foreshadow. This brooding opener inhabits the dark ambient world we’ve come to expect of her music but as the EP unfolds ethereal vocal lines mix with her darker sound and a new, lighter sound world is revealed.

In the artist’s words:

“A shadow falls across our lives, we hurt so we cry, the feeling starts to shift and from that shift hope can spring.”

Both intimate and expansive, the tracks create a feeling of existing outside time. LAIR’s profound connection to nature can be felt through all the tracks – at times in a deep cavern, at times moving through an elvish forest and at times in an Otherworld.

Released on June 29th on red cassette & digital with artwork and design by Goldmoth Media. Mastered by Dominic at Declared Sound.

LAIR / Eomac Remix

June 18, 2019 § Leave a comment

I’m very happy to be featured alongside the wonderful artists listed below on this album of remixes of Eomac’s Reconnect.

“Eomac’s ‘Reconnect’ gets the remix treatment by eight different artists from various fields of contemporary electronic music.

Featuring deranged re-synthesis by recent PAN artist Errorsmith, noisy punk-electro from Raster’s Kyoka, a drum and voice workout from Irish producer LAIR, polyrhythmic algorave from Tokyo courtesy of Renick Bell, broody experimental techno from rising star Nene H, next level reggaeton movements from Editions Mego affiliate Okkre, lush ambient from newcomer Dylan Henner and a VIP from Eomac himself.

This is a diverse and varied collection that not only works as a remix package but as a complete listen in itself. An album made independently from different strands, linked by the singualr source material, that comes together as a cohesive whole.”

The stunning artwork is by the SUPER talented artist Jazz Szu-Ying Chen.

Here’s a clip of my contribution to the project:

The album is available to buy now on the Eotrax Bandcamp.

LAIR / 101 Beats Per Minute

I am very happy to be a part of this cool collection.

Dunk Murphy is the brains behind this interesting idea- a group of named producers each make a track at 101BPM and his Countersunk label release them all with the artist name as 101 Beats Per Minute.

You get an interesting, diverse collection of music AND a fun game trying to figure out who wrote which track!

The list of the 23 contributors for this second round of the project are up on the Bandcamp page: https://countersunk.bandcamp.com/album/101-beats-per-minute-ii where you can also ‘name your price’ for the collection. A new track is released each Thursday, so you can catch the stream of the newest track there too.

It was a very different way for me to approach writing a track- if you know my music, BPM is not something I really attach to! I found the whole process of making it really fun and am so happy with the outcome. Thanks to Dunk for inviting me to be a part of it!

Eomac expands the roster of his recently inaugurated Eotrax imprint with the introduction of
two forerunners in Berlin’s techno scene: Kaltès and Nene H. Both have built respected
reputations as exciting artists to watch, as Kaltès organizes Tresor Berlin’s
female:pressure-affiliated party series and Nene H. turned heads with her Fountain Of Fire
performance at Berlin Atonal Festival. Their collaborative record, the Protest EP, presents a
call to arms and an empowered take on gnarly techno with a stormy industrial underbelly.

For Kaltès and Nene H., the music channels a current zeitgeist. A wail—a rallying
cry—appears on each track and provides the record’s central motif. In that sense the theme
acts as a statement to which each featured artist contributed, including the two remixers:
Orphx’s Christina Sealey and the Irish Eotrax alum LAIR. It’s a howl of anguish, but not from
heartache or misery; it’s a defiant, determined and empowered battle cry. On “Persist”,
staunch kicks summon the vocal from a swamp of metallic textures, while on “Resist” it’s
placed at the center of a thundering black hole, drawing the listener in deeper. In the hands
of Christina Sealey, it becomes a smoldering element in a rolling EBM cruiser, whereas LAIR
spreads it over a backdrop of shifting ambient textures and dark celestial grumbles.
